What does Softcap actually measure?
For every account you add it shows the two windows a subscription runs on: the five-hour session limit and the weekly limit — what is used, what is left, and when each resets.
Does checking my limits spend my limits?
No. Softcap reads usage endpoints with your own credentials; the requests carry no prompt and run no model, so the quota they describe is not touched by describing it.
Which providers does it support?
Claude and OpenAI Codex, several accounts of each at once. Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Gemini CLI are not supported yet: a provider that cannot be checked against a live account would quietly show zero, which is worse than nothing.
Do I have to sign in through the browser?
Signing in through the browser with OAuth gives Softcap its own grant, independent of any CLI. Accounts already signed into a local CLI are also detected and read without any sign-in at all.
Will it sign my CLI out?
No. The account your CLI is signed into is read-only in Softcap, and the app keeps its own copy of what it needs — refreshing never rotates the CLI's token.
Where do my tokens live?
In the macOS keychain, and nowhere else — never in preferences, logs or files. Removing an account removes its credentials from the keychain at that moment.
What leaves my Mac?
Three things, and only three: usage requests to your own providers, optional error reports scrubbed of paths and anything token-shaped, and an optional daily update check. The last two have their own off switches.
What do the 80% and 95% marks mean?
Those are the notification thresholds: a nudge when an account crosses 80% of a window, a last warning at 95% — once per crossing, not once per poll, and never during quiet hours. Both levels can be changed.
Why does a reading show its age?
A local Codex account is read from the session files its CLI writes, so the number is a snapshot from the CLI's last run. Softcap says how old the snapshot is instead of pretending it is live.
What does it cost to run?
The app is free. On the wire it costs one usage request per account per poll — every five minutes in the background, once a minute with the window open, or whatever interval you set.
